section: Art Seeks the Toddler
duration: 30 min. + 15 min. of play
show for children aged 1-4
“When I was a child, a very small child, I didn’t want to go to sleep with the light on... I would close my eyes and wait for the lights that dreams would lit up in my head.” The show is based on an “experiment” carried out in crèches and kindergartens during which the artists could observe the child’s relation with light and darkness. Dance is created out of music, movement and rhythm of the switched on light. Light can become everything - in the show lamps, light bulbs and cables turn into flowers, a spoon, dancer, merry-go-round... They even become a mum, dad and child.
On-Off has its roots in the childlike delight in the nature of light and the fascinating possibility to control it. All that in order to help children overcome their fear of darkness.
