  • OWINY SIGOMA BAND is a British-Kenyan band that came to life following a meeting between musicians from North London and the Luo tribe village of Owiny Sigoma. Their debut, self-titled, album recorded in 2011 at Brownswood, got excellent reviews, with The Guardian calling it “one of the best fusion experiments of recent years, with its clash of traditional Kenyan styles and contemporary British electronica”. Damon Albarn, the frontman of Blur and Gorillaz, who in 2007 invited Jesse Hackett to a musical trip to Mali and then to play keyboards at Gorillaz, added Farfisa organ or omnichord on a couple of the tracks and included the band in his Africa Express project. In April 2013, a second album called Power Punch was released and the band was nominated for the MOBO (Music of Black Origin Award).
