  • Alphard is the brightest star in the Hydra constellation, a solitary star, outshining other stars with its light. In her solo show, Mikiko Kawamura depicts a man whose body becomes automatic, frees itself from gravity, becoming more and more effectively, though aimlessly, acting machine. The presence of a man - a self-concentrated star of the universe - is built of movement and music, set within the coordinates defined by light. The stage is divided into light fields with separate sound-tracks assigned to them. The floor resembles a touch screen, a surface vividly reacting to the dancer’s steps. Alphard, in a witty and lively manner, combines contemporary dance with pop culture and quotations directed to the “Old World” – elite culture which sounds like an echo of a no longer existing star constellation.

  • MIKIKO KAWAMURA is a rising star of Japanese dance. In spite of her young age (born 1990), she has already received a few significant awards, including Outstanding New Artist Prize during New Choreographer Division of the Yokohama Dance Collection EX2011 and New Artist Prize during Dance ga Mitai! New Figure Dance Festival 10. She begun with break-dance, which she practiced in the district of Tokyo, Shinjuku. Her work on a show starts with a vision, with a group of images, which she then consistently transforms into a stage reality. She works in a comprehensive manner being the author of music, lights and visual setting. Mikiko Kawamura combines multi-tasking and testing of ever new activities with accurate planning of her own choreography. She describes her dance as an attempt to express parallel worlds - the constellations of never used alternatives, which often go unnoticed.
