  • We are in the 25th century. In the underground world controlled by computers, humans have been reduced to automatons without emotions. In the sterile and oppressive reality all natural impulses are forbidden. Love and sex are practically impossbile since people are forced to take numbing drug every day. Children are conceived in vitro in clinics, and mechanical 'people' with steel faces rule the world. Residents of this world are standardised. Their heads are shaved, their clothes identical, and instead of names they have numbers. However, they still feel like humans - live, breathe, work. One day, a couple: a man, THX 1138, and a woman, LUX 3417, decide to stop taking their daily amounts of drugs. They discover love and emotions. THX 1138 starts to fight against the anti-human system, the law of which he had already seriously violated. The film, made 40 years ago, is unsettlingly prophetic in its vision of tomorrow. It features images of our times, in fact.

  • GEORGE LUCAS is a producer, screenwriter and one of the most renowned Hollywood directors. He is the author of Star Wars, a cult saga of modern popculture and one of the most successful (financially) films ever. In 1981 he created the character of Indiana Jones in cooperation with Steven Spielberg. His film debut was THX 1138 made on the basis of a short student film, Electronic Labirynth, THX 1138 4EB. Francis Ford Coppola produced the film as he saw the potential of the young director when they worked together at Finian's Rainbow musical (George Lucas was Coppola's assistant then). The creator of Star Wars was nominated to an Academy Award four times. Currently, he focuses mostly on film production.
