Mujeres (Spanish: women) is based on Eduardo Galeano’s book of the same title. The show reveals that the facade of being a wife, daughter, grandmother, mother hides passions which remained unfulfilled for centuries. Eva Rufo goes beyond the traditional image of a silent, calm and submissive woman, drawing on Cuentacuentos, the Spanish custom of telling stories which originated in 1950s in one of the libraries in Barcelona. The stories were to encourage people to read books and contribute to decreasing illiteracy. The custom became widespread and now cities organize festivals at which you can listen to professional storytellers.
EVA RUFO is a Spanish actress, living in Poland since 1997 and since 2006 directing her own shows: Nosotro$ollE, Mujeres-Kobiety, Ja też (...pragnę być Almodowarowską dziewczyną), inspired by the tradition of Cuentacuentos (literally, telling stories).
